Don't stop.

"I listened to his heart beat when he slept and I loved him for every fingernail, eyelash and scar. He is so talented I can feel it when I touch him and intelligent without needing to prove it by talking just to hear the sound of his own voice, he is quick and funny and brave enough to love a girl who is a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle that only comes with 999 pieces. Sometimes I think he could be the 1000th."

The person who wrote this, beautiful, heart throbbing-ly painful paragraph, is still so young, from reading her story. Every love we feel at every part of our lives are the most real, most true to us, at that point in time and their love sounds so beautiful, so real, from her point of view. I honestly wish her story ends well, I'm not being a killjoy here, but it generally doesn't. At least not at that age. Maybe she'll have that special story. Who am I to say? I'm only at the beginning of my journey, too.

I'd die happy (when I actually do die) if someone ever wrote something like that about me. Its so temporary, still so beautiful, and I would always read it just to remember the person that I was at that point of time.

Raw and unfiltered.

"You’ll only ever be on each other’s peripherals,
but never in plain sight."

"When you’ve been seeing yourself as an inferior, unlovable person for long enough, or someone has been telling you that for long enough, you can start to believe it on such a subconscious, engrained level, that if someone treats you like you’re better than that, you think there’s something wrong with them."
*****

I respect writers like that, its quite amazing what our minds are capable of. When I read these things, I think about what they had to go through to write something like that, to realize something so painfully true, for them at least. And to actually deal with that realization. I mean... What am I supposed to do now, with that knowledge? That kind of thought.

"XXX isn’t made in a single ideal moment… it is a collection of good and great moments that add up over time.” -Art Markman

I wrote XXX because I think you can fill in many different words there to make that sentence meaningful.  A collection of good moments over time. Stop letting one moment change your entire cause.

So, the semester has ended. I'm officially forced to take another step forward, in terms of education. Now I finally find myself in the place I've been dreading and making the decision I have been procrastinating.
To choose a major.

Finals ended just 3 days ago and the break has started. I only have 2 goals this break, and surprisingly or not, sleep is not on that list. I'm feeling proud that I still manage to surprise myself sometimes, step one to falling a little in love with myself. Heh.

1. EAT.
2. HAVE FUN.

Of course, it'd be nice if those two can be accomplished together. Of course, I'd like to travel too. But I always get disappointed a little in that category, so to cut myself a little heartache, I won't put it on the list.

Oddly, the first thing I did to start the break off, was a very rushed, impromptu, also uneventful, trip back to Ipoh. At least I got one thing cut off my to-do list?

I got a haircut! Got rid of all those terrible dead ends and fluff and... it was so pretty that day. But today, its back to how it used to be. :/

Also, celebrated Father's Day on Sunday.

For a man who has lived this long (half a decade plus), done all kinds of things, I feel until today he still stands on what he believes in, and despite how people, myself included, will never understand or agree or accept the way he's lived his life, I think that's something I look up to. Maybe its because I feel I may never be able to do that. Mistakes are made, hearts are broken, many lives are changed. At the end of the day, we're here now. And now, is what should matter. Every Father's day, I wish him, thinking back a little about the father that he was, and I would say, he was lacking in many ways. I'm not the best daughter, but we fought long and hard and now we're all grown up. I'm the youngest, and I turned 21 this year. If today, this is the best he can be for us, he cooks for us, helps us in all the small small ways, the best we can do, is just to be daughters and call him 'Dad' and appreciate now. The past, let is stay where it belongs, in the past. Happy Father's Day, daddy.

Be strong.

"Funny you're the one broken but I was the one that needed saving." - Stay, Rihanna

I've been living by that for awhile now, for as long as I remembered actually. There's no one's pain more painful than the other person's. So, don't forget to sometimes, just sometimes, see their pain too. Its so easy to forget, I know that. So easy. But, I think all we really need are honest words and open hearts and good communication. Even that is hard to do. Lessons to be learnt.

I think everyone deserves someone who loves to love them. Altruism doesn't exist, I had a big debate on that topic in foundation. Hah. I was on the opposing team and I was fighting for something I don't believe in. That only says two things, either I'm a really bad debater (which I am) or that the statement is true beyond any argument. I've done all the research necessary, looked for all the arguments that there are out there. But no matter what I read, I didn't believe it and I couldn't make myself believe it either.

"Altruism involves the unselfish concern for other people. It involves doing things simply out of a desire to help, not because you feel obligated to out of duty, loyalty, or religious reasons."

There are great people out there, many many for that matter. But nobody does something and expects nothing in return. Even if you didn't expect anything in return, what you get from it is intrinsic. Its like you do it because even if you're doing something for someone else's benefit, at your expense, you still get something in return. You feel better about yourself, you feel proud, satisfied at your own good work, you receive gratitude, kindness in return, the birth of a new friendship. Something. Somethings comes back to you, whether it was from that someone else or not. Does it mean that if you don't expect anything back but it comes to you anyway, that it is altruism? Nah. I think I'm writing way beyond my league right now. 끝.

Lets go back to what my main point is. My main point is actually, that people think love is altruistic. It isn't. If I was to be curt here, the only reason it isn't is just because altruism doesn't exist. I do believe, however, that everyone deserves someone who loves to love them, not just someone who loves them. You gotta love loving that person, it shouldn't feel like a burden, it shouldn't feel like a responsibility. You don't have to force yourself to love someone else. You either do, or you don't. What is it when they do it just because they have to, not because they love doing it? Love is not a job. Maybe a relationship feels like a job, maybe marriage feels like a job. Loving someone is not a job. It comes from the heart. So cliche, hah. Ironic. But love is also not black and white. There is no clear cut answers. What we can only do, is keep asking.

"Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
"

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Always hopes,
always perseveres.

Take me back to the beginning.

Back to when it was all filled with crinkly eyed smiles and good laughs and deep conversations.

"Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me."
-The Scientist, Coldplay

So, it may or may not be obvious that I'm here procrastinating again because I just did the first paper for my finals and it was pretty shitty. And, yes. That. Ugh, I'm falling behind every semester, just barely pulling through. I wonder if this will last. And the next paper is in a few days, and I'm freaking out so bad and its the same cycle again. Freaking out so bad that I'm not doing anything about it. Ugh. Why am I like that?

On one of my lazy days (laced with silent screams in my head about my finals), I watched P.S I love you again. I don't know why I torture myself with things like that. Guilty pleasures, that's what they call it. And despite all the love messages and all the true love stuff they were trying to send out, one sentence really stood out to me.

"Losing your mind is not for the middle class."

This is true. Too true. Really true. So while I've also spent many days of my 21 years of life breaking down and falling apart and eventually crawling back up again, this statement still remains true. If you were grieving, if you were heartbroken, if you lost the things you love, if you lost yourself, for any of the reasons, losing your mind is not for the middle class. If you were one of those people who were successful (materially speaking) and you have a large figure in your bank account, maybe you can afford to spend days or weeks sitting around, crying your eyes out, eat expensive ice cream from a tub, don't work, don't study, don't cook, don't clean, don't shower, don't sleep (or sleep too much), perhaps you could do just that.

Maybe you could afford an expensive psychiatrist and pay for someone to just hear you out, who'll try to tell you what's wrong with you and where you should start when it comes to healing yourself. Maybe you can afford to spend bucket loads of money on booze and get pissed drunk, dance and sing and be entertained by some true friends and some shady ones and then spend the entire day after that nursing yourself back to sobriety, and still feel more alone than ever. And repeat until you finally feel like yourself again.

But for the rest of us, we can't afford to. When you think you're too broken, too sad, too angry, and everything is too much, what's there left to do? Still gotta go to class, still gotta sit for the exams, still gotta finish the work, still gotta wake up everyday and go through the motions of life. The lesson here, is that if you want to be sad, get out of the middle class first.

May's been a tough month, all the stress, piled up assignments, preparing for finals, balancing life, work and play. And the feels. Oh god, the feels. Overwhelming, close to losing it. The things that goes on in my own head beats everything that I have to do out there. Before this, I said 'how to make the heart stop?', now I'd say 'how to make the mind stop?'. Insomnia, stupid nightmares, palpitating heartbeats, shaking legs, shaking hands, blurred eyesight, either eating too much or not eating at all. Hmmm. Getting through all that, then there comes sleepless nights with the finals just started.

May is over now. We're halfway through. I've made countless mistakes, even I'm beginning to lose count. I'm failing myself over and over. I don't know what's wrong with me. There's no more words to say.  Everyday, the only mantra that runs in my head is "keep loving, keep loving, its the only thing left to do".

Love defies all reasons, love has no eyes.
But love is not blind. Love sees but doesn't mind.

 Remember that.

"And when all of the bridges you build
Are washed away in a stream,
Whatever comes,
It's not the end,
We've gotta fight."

Turning 21.

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

So the actual celebration really started on Tuesday when mummy came down to celebrate with me. We went to The Curve and ate at The Apartment, the food was just so-so and I... don't like rainbow cake. Its just pleasant to the eye, not so much the tongue.

And after dinner and random shopping at IKEA, we headed back to Sunway. And...into Soju. HAHA. Funny night. We had a drink each and mummy was out of it, she didn't even finish her drink. I was pretty reddened up and giggling by then too. Oh wells. Live band, empty place, not too bad.

Then, on Thursday, Siew Nee and Wai Teng bought me a cake in uni, so sweet of them. I feel bad I couldn't have expressed it better.

Then, Friday... I don't remember what I did :O Ahh. We went to Uncle Jjang and ate Haagen Daaz after that.

Then... we came home and lazed around. All of a sudden, Omar and the rest of the guys burst in and... we sat around awkwardly. Lol. Thank you guys for coming and enduring the awkwardness and the messy room and the dirty floor.

The next day, woke up, got dressed. Namchin and I were supposed to go to sing k together, alone. Key word here is 'supposed to'. So he not so secretly crept out and said he was going to the bank, kononnya. And when he returned, we went to redbox. And if nobody was expecting this, because I definitely wasn't,

"SURPRISE!"

Haha. I love my balloons. And I almost got a heart attack. We sang and ate and... the rest of the day continued. They fooled me quite well I'd say. Haha. Of course, my sister would be the one who breaks first. And Omar and Zhan Wei are bad liars in my eyes. Well.. sorta.

Totally was not expecting the cell group to be involved as well. :) Eternally grateful.

The uni bff I call him, thank you for all the kindness and friendship you have always so willingly gave.

Thank you, Omar for constantly being my safety net.

Ezzie, for always sticking by me through life.

And the best sister anyone could ever ask for.

Great big THANK YOU to the mastermind beneath all these, all the hiding phone and random calls and weird visits to the bank. Thank you so much, namchin, for making this 21st memorable. It is literally, the first surprise party I've ever gotten and so successfully as well. Thank you for all the pain that you've been through, for all the times you held me, for all the times you loved me, for all the sacrifices you made for me, and for all the times you loved me

I will love you always.

I am, eternally grateful.

"When the rain is blowing in your face,
And the whole world is on your case,
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love."

"When all that's left in the world is this lamp on my nightstand
It's early morning where you are; you've already left the house
I'm lying on my side; I can sense that you are turn your back at me
Countless strangers; waiting for the next green light
Again and again, we've missed each other's most lonely and vulnerable times."

I personally think that that picture is the cutest thing ever.
Wouldn't you agree?

좀 더 사랑스러워 하면 안돼?

Throwback, back when my hair was short and his hair was long and when we still managed to smile cutely in a selfie. 보고싶네.

In other news, let me introduce Burnie!

Our hedgehog!

Now, I'm not sure if getting a hedgehog was such a good idea, but he's so cute, I have no regrets. The thing with hedgehogs is that their... spiky. Very spiky. And they get scared. Very scared, very easily. It takes a long time to get used to and I'm convinced the fella just doesn't like me very much. *sniffles*

He's a lot bigger now, and a little more hostile. Like a kid. From baby to kid. Babies, they're soft and helpless and just a little more innocent. Now Burnie is like a kid, a 4 year old, naughty, lazy, angry, scared kid. :/

And still really adorable.

To get him from spiky to less spiky. Main ingredients : Time and patience, ability to withstand being stabbed by his spikes. Woes of a new hedgehog owner.

I've been trying to not drown in my work and try to balance out my time, but there's not even enough time to sleep or chill. Let's try to keep a positive mindset, because the first major presentation is over and I'm feeling less pulled down by it. I can do this! All bad times come to an end eventually.

Group work is a really hard thing to do. :( Oh well.
아자 아자!

Now all I want to do is dress up, go out, eat good food, dance and have fun. Maybe laugh a little. I never laugh.

'Cause when you smile at me my heart starts a'pounding
I forget my name and forget my surroundings
I just need to be near you
Can I pretend that you want to be near me, too?'

Inevitably.

"I tried to paint you a picture
The colors were all wrong
Black and white didn't fit you
And all along

You were shaded with patience
Your strokes of everything
That I need just to make it,
But I can see

Lord knows I failed you time and again,
But you and me are alright

We won't say our goodbyes
You know its better that way
We wont break, we wont die
Its just a moment of change."

-One Republic, All We Are

I'm really trying here, can you give me a break?

Trying to get some time to myself, to get inside my own head. Its so easy to look pass everything on a daily basis because of the time constraints. I mean, how long do you want to brood over something in a day? Why make the rest of the day suffer for one little thing? Now I'm going to go ahead and contradict myself here because what if that small thing is actually relatively important? Its not like you don't do anything about it today and forget about it tomorrow, then it doesn't become a problem anymore. Isn't that worth brooding over? Do I stop brooding if it potentially ruins somebody else's day? Maybe, maybe not.

I did that for a very long time, and I figured that its really wearing me out. It gets me not thinking about what I really want, what things really mean to me, what I actually and really feel about everything. Is that what it should be? Humans, in general, are social beings. We always interact with someone else, and the people around us are really the ones who end up shaping our lives, apart from ourselves, of course. But if we're going to have to accommodate people for all the days that they're around us, then...what?

Why do we keep saying sorry for having to compromise ourselves? Sometimes we gotta learn to listen; listen well, listen hard. Now I used to be able to do that very well. Somewhere along the way I feel like I've been sucked up into another part of my life that every other part of me became obsolete. I scoff more often than I can remember now because there's a huge part of me that really wants to just disagree, but that would cause so much conflict, it will kill me to dissolve. I used to hold my tongue really well, because well.. not everyone needs to hear the voice inside my head. But its seemingly getting harder nowadays because I keep getting challenged with all the things that I believe in. Challenge is good, no? NO.

Attachment was never really my forte. Of course, its something we all happen to go through. We meet friends that we generally begin to cherish and then we have that person who becomes our boyfriend/girlfriend, and in my case, I'd say I'm pretty attached to my sister as well. Its easy when you know there's an unbreakable bond, easy when you know the relationship is just situational, and its worst when you have no idea what will happen. Sometimes, that's fine with me. I can accept that people come and go in life, and then I get all mopey and depressed about someone exiting my life and then.. life continues. We complain, we cry, we hurt awhile. And we never forget.

I like being able to speak my mind. Even then, I used to do it through blogging and tweeting, but now I feel like I can't speak my mind anywhere because if anything in my head goes out somewhere, I'd have to explain myself, justify my words, deny myself (sometimes), maybe. Somebody'll take offense. The voice inside my head has been silenced with layers and layers of duct tape.. or something. Every move I make is being watched, I word I say is being judged. I already use my words very carefully, I think very long and hard before I say a statement that I know will make a big impact on the listener, which occasionally garners annoyance, I still take it quite seriously to think before I speak. Is that a problem? Wouldn't people actually be glad that I'm taking effort to make sure I don't say things that are not a reflection of what I truly want to say? Nah, that's just for me, people generally don't care.

Everything that I worked on in myself is beginning to backfire on me. The patience I used to have, the ability to listen, not judge, my temperament, the ability to see beyond myself, the ability to mask the bad days from innocent people, the ability to hold on to my words. I don't like who I'm becoming, again. I've fallen into that hole before, it was dark and it was far too deep. Never, ever, develop hatred for yourself. Ever.

Just to make myself not feel so bad about the kind of person I am now, maybe I should remind myself what I still have to make myself feel better. I can still hold my tongue (one of my biggest principle in life; when you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything), I still prefer to keep peace than anything else, I let things go so they don't haunt me forever (excluding things that I get constant reminders of), I still don't like to inconvenient people (much) and... this is a really hard paragraph to type, I give up.

Is it really that bad to look out for yourself? When its not at the expense of another person, of course. Does looking out for myself automatically means I'm not looking out for someone else? If I'm looking out for someone, does that mean I'm not looking out for someone else?

There's two type of people in the world, or more like two types of situations. There are people who just want to talk, and all they want is to be heard. The other kind of people are the kind who wants you to hear them out, and offer them a solution. The thing is, it doesn't matter what I say to you, you already know what you want to do. Or you're just too lazy to think for yourself.

Why do people get angry? Because it represents passion? Because passion+anger = motivation? Because anger moves people go beyond themselves? Who came up with things like this? I need to Google this. I didn't use to get angry. I use to have control over my anger so well that it surprises me sometimes. But recently, I feel the urge to stand up for myself much more than I used to, and that's not because of anger though. Is anger contagious?

What happened to casual conversations; deep, intellectual, fun, righteous, opinionated but understanding? When will the comments in my head not sound offensive to people? I feel like I cheated myself also, being the person that I am now. I can hear the same words I was told back then, ouch. Big ouch. If that's the case, then I'm still doing something wrong, right?

From the point when I realized all this, I will still remember everything that I learnt.

Speak kindly.
Love more, love harder.

That is all I'm taking with me."

 Overdue update.

So.. The semester has started and I feel like I'm falling behind so far I can't even see the bend in front. I haven't been focused, I haven't been paying much attention, I sit in, go out, and everything flies by me like I wasn't even there. Its stressing me out because currently there's generally no one I can rely on. Maybe I'm just stressed out and over thinking. :/ Non the less, it bothers me quite a bit. Okay, rant over.

There's been quite some stuff going on, I think my brain just doesn't recall very well anymore.

Kristal and Jo came back, we hung out....a little. Drifting is a natural occurrence, I just don't like it very much. :( 항상 보고싶다, 친구야. Including the boyfriends into the picture. This is such a pretty picture though.

Then there was a some tea drinking and alot of time spent in the hospital. Then a lot of taking care of my boyfriend who was on crutches for awhile. Very little sleep. I bought new shoes. Did my first presentation, not so great. First test, not so great. Had God test me over and over again when it comes to working in teams. Still pulling through. God, help me.

Long weekends, long days, long hours of break. How is it that everything seems so long but 24 hours is just not enough for a day? I need to pull myself together now. No more excuses. 화이팅!

Conclusion : TIRED. 피곤하다.

Yes, this is my Valentines Day post. I'd say the celebration started well on the dot for us, at 12am.

Title: My Drunken Valentines

My first ever 7-course meal at a fancy pancy restaurant; what an experience. It'll be one I don't forget.

It was an emotional night, going back and forth. Nontheless, it felt like our very own Valentines. Thank you, boyfriend. I appreciate all that you've done for me.

I took some of the petals back with me, just a little Valentines' souvenir. Heh.

At the table, after dinner. I was so full I could barely finish the main course. They served these tiny uhh... tart thing as appetizers and then sorbet before the main course. I forgot what they call it, but it was all very amusing.

At the balcony outside, 28th floor. It was pretty. I like the city lights, still do. Ahh, Harith Iskandar was at the same restaurant with his wife.

I love you.

I've had a pretty great 2013, looking back. I'd be completely honest and say that there were parts of it that I wish I could have done differently, but I'd rather not. I've met great people, I went to places I have never been, done things that I always do (hah) and learnt lessons that would last a lifetime.

We're here, we're there.
This is it. This is the end.

The end of the year has arrived. Unlike the previous years, the end came just in time for me, not too soon, not too late. Just right. Its a topsy turvy year, I've been up, been down. The beginning of the year itself was like a scene cut out of a horror movie, followed by long months of crazy self destruction that brought along a lot of fun and a lot of pain. That was January for me.

"Why does it feel so good but hurt so bad?
My mind keeps telling me 'run as fast as you can'."

***

Chinese New Year was interesting this year. I was given the chance to know some new people, who brought quite a lot of laughter into my life. Blessed I am indeed. One of the most eventful CNYs I've ever had.

Followed by what I thought of it to be a time of healing. The trip to Busan+Seoul was amazing, everything I wanted it to be. I just wish there was more time. There's so much more to see, so much more to know. I'll go back there, one day; when time and money and age and language and company will not be a problem anymore.

February was a lot of traveling, a lot of emptiness otherwise. I spent time with different people, seeing different things, seeing a different me. A lot of messed up sleeping hours, long nights spend with my laptop boyfriend and random outings. By the time I came back from Seoul, I was ready to get back on track by going back to uni. But God had different plans for me. Didn't happen, maybe I was confused and down for awhile after that. Moved on from there.

***

Apparently I came back from Korea in March (I actually looked through my own facebook to remember that). Then time must have passed really fast for me as I try to figure out what to do with my life because the uni plan didn't happen again and I was suffering from post-Korea depression. Everything was just not as good back in Malaysia. Oh well.

***

April, I think I actually may have not done anything in April. Oh right. My short and sweet and also slightly secret trip to Singapore. Those are the days that may seem like it came and went but didn't make a difference. But leaves a mark in the heart for a long time. It was another runaway from me. Not entirely proud of it, seemingly bothered a few people, but no regrets. I came back with a little more hope.

***

May, my birthday month. I have no recollection of what was happening. Not the kind of birthday I want to remember. It all just blipped through.

***

I remember strange things happening after that. New, strange person. As mean as I sound saying this, I'm glad we're no longer speaking. Good times though, good times. June; One of a Kind. These are memories made in the city centre of KL for me that I may always remember. Walking along the streets, the train, the rain, the sun. And of course, GD. And uhh, somewhere along the lines I also saw BEAST and 4minute and G.Na.

Surprisingly more traveling. Road trip! I am sorry for the one blip that happened during this trip, a broken heart. One day, maybe, one day, we will change things...again.

July was a little bit more traveling, a little bit more family. Jakarta was an interesting experience. Not great as a vacation, but eye opening when it comes to humanity. I came back humbled. And...glad.

I miss the blue contacts and my strangely nice hair and the absolutely adorable elephant. I think I'd still want it if I could go back in time. I don't remember exactly what happened that July.

July, on the way to August, I spent a lot of time with these people. Ahhh, all the sleepless nights and strange bondings. Maybe these times can never return again, but thank God they happened. Part of the year where I felt like I actually belonged (thanks, Omar; even though you weren't here for half of the adventures).

***

August cum September, where my sister returned and I finally got my ass back into uni with a great surprise which may turn into one of the best things that happen to me. The return of a good friend, heh.

Our strange adventure began and uhh... rave? Haha. We Love Asia 2.0 and Arthur's Day and then Sundown in October.

October, new friends, back to being a student. Thankfully, this time around, its more fun, less pain. I would say October was the month of meeting people and having a great time and then... life goes on. Some people appear in your life only for the shortest, most heartwarming moments and then...poof, no more. It was a good lesson learnt. After that, it became a lot easier to accept that some people are just not meant to say. And I also think it was about this time where the "single-probation-period" ended. Haha, damn.

November. Ahh, November. Where Things Begin to Change. Month of the final exams, lotsa stress, very little sleep, a lot of mamak food at 4am, long phone calls and dangerous flirting and stepping out of the comfort zone.

And then the holidays began.

***

December. Month of the Decision. Christmas. Bukit Tinggi. Ipoh. Camerons. New Year.

And... 2014.
Year of No Repeats.

"All I want for Christmas is you."

24th December.

Candlelight service at church, it was uhh.. an interesting experience. There's nowhere I'd rather be than in the house of God during Christmas.

25th December.

As per usual, Christmas dinner at Daddy's with Uncle Wai Keong and family. Roasted chicken and potato salad for dinner. Present exchanging after that and I got this huge frame, supposedly from daddy, but aunty bought it.

 Sisters in the house!

Before that,

Christmas date with heart big teddy bears and heart shaped meat.

26th December.

And after that, Boxing Day at Bukit Tinggi.

It was nice and cold and all we did was walk around, throw pop pop, drink pina colada.

This was Christmas for me.
